We start this book with Oraya seeing Raihn an enemy. Not that I blame her for how the first book ended. Everything she knew was not only taken from her, but outright destroyed.
Locked in her rooms by four locks and spells over her windows, she has become a prisoner again in the House of Night, this time against her will. Her home is torn apart and everything she knew taken from her. Taking Raihn's offer of a secret alliance becomes her only chance to reclaim her kingdom and get vengeance for her father's death. But her fathers secrets begin to pile up on her. She will have to learn to trust again. When Raihn's tenuous hold on his new rule over the House of Night falls, he is chained to the outer wall waiting on his death with the sunrise. Oraya is forced to save him and face the devastating love that could be her downfall. Together they rally what is left of the Hija and unravel the clues to unlocking her new reality. She is made for the sky and soon she will understand why. He gives her the space to find her answers on her own, while keeping the Bloodborn at arms length as long as he can. Before the end she realizes how much she loves him and that they are stronger together. They save each other, but is it too late to save the House of Night? I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next one. There are so many twists and turns in the story it was hard to read it a little at a time. This is a fated mate story about a couple that found and lost each other in the first book, only to realize in this book how real and strong their love is.
